Rainy Days

The last few days have been rainy so we've spent a fair amount of time indoors (not a great combination with two tired boys and a baby having a growth spurt!) and keeping them all entertained has been 'fun'
As it's Harry Potter's birthday today (along with JK Rowling and Daniel Radcliffe), we decided to watch the first in the Harry Potter series (the boys are big fans).
But we can't watch films all day so afterwards, whilst they played Scalextric, I made some playdough!

It went down a treat! I haven't made it in years so, even though I could remember the ingredients, I had to guess (and tweak) the quantities. Here's how I made it:
Ingredients
250g plain flour
50g salt
140ml water
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Few drops of food colouring
Method
Mix the flour and salt together in a large mixing bowl then add the water and oil.
Knead until mixture is a nice, smooth consistency. If the mixture feels a bit dry, add a little water. If the mixture feels sticky, add some more flour (it should be soft and workable, but shouldn't stick to your fingers).
Add food colouring and knead until the colour is fully blended.
Store in an airtight container (or plastic bag) until chilled enough to use. Mine was ready after about 45mins
We will be making this again in a variety of different colours :-)

Homemade Mini Milks

As the weather has been so hot recently, I bought an ice-lolly maker from Asda for £1 and we've been enjoying lollies made from orange juice (a great way to get extra vitamins into the kids!) but the frozen treats that my kids like the best are mini-milks. At £2 for a box of 8, they're not the cheapest lollies in the world!

So, we decided to have a go at making them ourselves and here's how we did it...

Ingredients:

1 pint of chilled milk
A few handfuls of soft fruit (we used strawberries)

Method:

Prepare the strawberries by washing them and removing the stalks.

Grab a blender, a self-contained one is easiest but you can use a stick-blender (we did!) and puree the strawberries.

Add the milk and blend until both ingredients are fully combined.

Pour the mixture into your lolly mould and FREEZE! We left ours overnight so they were ready for the morning

Our turned out pretty nice and the kids loved them! So simple and you know exactly what's in them :-)

What a start to this new Blog!

It's one of those times that every mum dreads...when your child is ill.

It started with J with a temp yesterday morning (and feeling very sorry for himself) and today C is poorly, so no school or nursery for them.

So...how to keep the non-poorly one entertained, whilst looking after the sick child and the baby too? Not easy!

Yesterday we had a movie day, which worked well as we haven't done it for a while and J was able to nap on the sofa when he needed to.

Today was trickier as J was back to his usual self and C was wanting to play when the medicine was working! So drawing, sticking and action figures were the order of the day!

We also took the opportunity to do our Lego Quest for the week. This week's theme was Halloween (not sure why as we're in the middle of July!) and this is what J created that reminds him of Halloween...it's a big scary monster!!

For more details on the Lego Quest, take a look at this page:

C still has a temp late this evening so fingers crossed, it's as short-lived as J's illness and that he's a happy chappy once again in the morning.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!

First, a small introduction...I'm Jenny, mum to 3 young boys and a Stay at Home Mum (SAHM), hopefully soon to be a Work at Home Mum (WAHM).

Mud Ahoy! is the place I'll be sharing my ramblings and experiences of raising 3 boys and all the fun that comes with it.

I hope you'll pop back often to see how we're getting on :-)
